Meet the St Martin’s team…..

Rev’d Sarah Marshall - Vicar

Sarah started as our Vicar in August 2022 and also holds the position of Assistant Rural Dean in the St Albans Diocese. Sarah’s style is informal, and authenticity is central to her ministerial philosophy.

She is keen to encourage a warm, inclusive and family feel to St Martin’s and has introduced a ‘café church’ style to our regular services.

Sarah is married to Chris and has two children, who actively play a role in the church too.

Aside from her faith in God, people are at the heart of Sarah’s ministry and she’s keen to meet as many people as possible in the Shenley community - if you see her around, please do stop and say ‘hello’!

Daniel Davel - Church Warden

Daniel, originally from South Africa, brings wealth of experience to the Church Warden role. Daniel is responsible for ensuring the church follows governance procedures and liaises with the Diocese when required.

He’s is a Spurs fan and takes an active role in encouraging his son’s footballing ambitions too.

Daniel is often the first one at church on a Sunday, opening and up and ensuring things are running smoothly - a great person to have around!

Chris Marshall - Church Warden

Chris is a very handy person to have around! A qualified electrician and all round DIY expert. Chris is the Church Warden who takes responsibility for the church buildings, any repairs or renovations are overseen (and often completed by) him.

He’s married to Rev Sarah and views his calling as very much on the practical side of things. He’s a season ticket holder at Watford FC and wouldn’t turn down a craft beer!

If you enjoy rolling your sleeves up, let Chris know and he can add you to our church maintenance group - many hands make light work!

St Martin’s PCC

St Martin’s Church would not be what it is without our hard working PCC (Parochial Church Council). Every CoE church is required to have this governing board, not only to ensure safeguarding standards are met, but also to play an active role in creating mission plans and taking care of every aspect of church life.

The photo above only shows a small number of the PCC, currently there are 14 members in total. If you want feedback anything about the church, this is the team to talk to!

Sarah is a regularly worshipper at St Martin’s and over years has supported the Youth Group, Soup Lunch and many other groups/events. Sarah was appointed PCC Secretary in May 2024 and comes to us with a wealth of experience from her secular role.
